Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire (DBE), Civil Division, 2nd Type (post 1936) Badge conferred upon Ninette de Valois by His Majesty King George VI

Description: Gilded Badge in the shape of a cross patonce decorated with pale blue enamel. The central medallion carries the conjoined profiles in gold of Their Majesties King George V and Queen Mary (as founders of the Order) within a red enamel band bearing the motto of the Order, 'For God and the Empire'. The reverse of the Badge is plain except for a central roundel bearing the King's cipher, 'GRI'. The Badge is suspended by a gold crown and ring and, as it is a lady's award, hangs from a bow of the ribbon, which has a brooch attachment on the reverse. The Badge is worn on the left shoulder. A Dame Commander is the 2nd Class of the Order. Given in presentation case ROH/VAL/BEQ/16 with Breast Star ROH/VAL/BEQ/13; related to the dress miniature of the Badge ROH/VAL/BEQ/15, certificate ROH/VAL/BEQ/12, and letter ROH/VPP/1/03.
