||Ariadne auf Naxos, Op. 60
||Hugo von Hofmannsthal
||Opera in a prologue and one act|
||The original 'Ariadne auf Naxos' was a one-act opera that followed the play 'Le Bourgeois Gentilhomme' by Molière as the entertainment provided by the main character (Monsieur Jourdain) for his guests. Strauss conducted the premiere on 25 October 1912. For the subsequent two-act version, Hugo von Hofmannsthal wrote a Prologue, set behind the stage of a private theatre in an anonymous rich man's house, which was followed by a reworking of the original one-act opera.
