Dress worn by Margot Fonteyn as Juliet in Act I scene 4 of The Royal Ballet production of 'Romeo and Juliet' (1965)

Description: Cream brocade and satin dress with an off-the-shoulder neckline trimmed with gold braid. The upper part of the bodice is brocade embroidered with silver and white thread and decorated with gold coloured metallic ribbon and iridescent and gold coloured jewels. The lower part of the bodice is cream satin overlaid with machine embroidered nylon and decorated with gold coloured metallic ribbon, which radiates out from the centre bust toward the hips. The top portion of the sleeves is decorated with gold cord, diamanté, and faux amber stones. The gathered puff at the elbows, made of gold and cream organza, goes into a long narrow cuff. The skirt is a layer of cream silk chiffon over a layer of cream and gold organza.
